Ahead of the Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 3, Eren Yeager voice actor Yuki Kaji revealed how the iconic series changed his life.

Specifically, Kaji shared how he found out about the series and how it influenced his life in a recent message to d-Anime Store for its 10th Anniversary.

His message was translated into English and shared online by @AttackOnFans on Twitter.

Kaji recounted how he first discovered Attack on Titan as a manga series back in 2010. Back then, he was shocked by the series’ story and art, saying that reading it felt like he “had been struck by lightning”.

He then shared how he had no idea he was going to play the role in the anime. In the 10 years since then, Kaji explained how the series has affected him:

This work has taught me so much: To live. What does it mean to fight? What is justice? What is evil? Although I live in a non-fiction world, this story approaches the depths of the psyche with a rawness that goes beyond even the fiction. What is real and what is fiction? We must use our own brains and hearts to discern this.

This impact of the series on Kaji is no surprise given the series’ serious story that delves into heavy themes, not to mention that its story is full of brutal twists and turns.

On top of this, Eren Yeager is one of the most complex characters in Attack on Titan, especially in the final season.

To end his message, Kaji said:

I’m still learning from “Attack on Titan”, and I’m sure I will never stop learning from it for the rest of my life. Anyway. First of all, I will fight alongside Eren until the anime is completed. I will stake my life and I will play Eren with all my heart and soul.

Attack on Titan is an anime series that is based on the manga of the same name by Hajime Isayama. The manga was serialized in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine from September 2009 to April 2021.

As for the anime, its first three seasons were made by Wit Studio, with the production of The Final Season being transferred to MAPPA.

While it’s called the “Final Season”, it is split into three parts. Part 1 aired from December 2020 to March 2021. Part 2 was then released from January to April 2022.

The Final Season Part 3 is set to release sometime in 2023.
