Fans have been dying to see James Cameron take on a comic book film project for years now. However, webheads are well aware that the critically-acclaimed and box-office-generating filmmaker was close to helming a Spider-Man flick in the 90s. In case some of you didn't know, the Avatar franchise director once developed a Spidey flick that would have seen Leonardo DiCaprio.
Very little is known about Cameron's supposed plans for his scrapped Marvel project which was later redeveloped and became Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire but in a 2021 interview, he revealed that he wanted his version to be more grounded and realistic instead of being presented as just another superhero movie.
Now, after over two decades, the official concept art for James' Spider-Man film has surfaced online and it looks absolutely glorious. The art piece, drawn by the director himself features Peter Parker crawling on what appears to be an NYC building.
The image comes from Cameron's latest art book Tech Noir: The Art of James Cameron which came out in October 2021. Check out the "amazing" artwork here:

As much as I would have loved to see Cameron's Spidey vision come to life, I think we can all agree that what we ended up getting was one of the best comic book films ever and I'm pretty sure Leo himself wouldn't have things any other way, especially considering he's good pals with Tobey.
Speaking of the web-slinger, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are currently developing Spider-Man 4 starring Tom Holland.
