The long wait is over as Song Jong Ki’s Kdrama Arthdal Chronicles returns for season 2.
Released in 2019, the three-part epic fantasy series follows the story of heroes born in the mythical land of Arth during ancient times.
Joining the Hallyu actor in season one are Jang Dong Gun, Kim Ji Won, and Kim Ok Bin as the lead stars.
Fortunately, due to the public’s demand and the overwhelming response of the viewers, Arthdal Chronicles is having its much-awaited sequel.
Arthdal Chronicles 2 Officially in the Works
According to Soompi, Studio Dragon, the production company behind the beloved fantasy series, formally announced that the tvN series is returning for season 2.
In addition, the company also revealed that the production is aiming to start this 2022.
For the highly anticipated season, Arthdal Chronicles 2 will be helmed by Kim Kwang Sik, the genius behind the movie The Great Battle, while the script remained under Park Sang Yeon and Kim Young Hyun, who wrote the first installment.
Following the director and scriptwriter in charge of the sequel, viewers are looking forward to the confirmation of lead stars and who among the OG cast will reprise their roles as well as actors being added to the castings.
Arthdal Chronicles 2 Faced Delays production Due to COVID-19
To recall, in February 2020, tvN revealed that the epic fantasy series is getting a green light for another season and will be directed by Kim Kyu Tae and Hong Jong Chan.
At the time, the Kdrama was preparing to start its production in the second half of 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic.
In July of the same year, Studio Dragon gave updates noting that they made significant changes given the travel restrictions; hence, they could not film overseas.
In a statement, industry personnel explained that the production for season 2 “is a difficult matter to decide immediately considering the current situation,” adding that “the production situation, as well as the cost, will be equal to those from the first season, so the production company is considering various options.”
Due to this, Arthdal Chronicles season 2 was excluded from the 2021 lineup.
