Aquaman hasn't even made its official debut yet, however it seems like Jason Momoa's very first standalone movie as the DC Extended Universe's Arthur Curry has already begun raking in money thanks to its early screenings.
Deadline has the newest update on Aquaman's earnings and according to the publication, the DCEU entry just scored $2.9 million at the domestic box office all thanks to the sneak peek screenings that it had on Saturday night at around 1,225 theaters around the US.
That's a whole lot of money from the sneak peek screenings alone, and it looks like Aquaman's managed to outperform the early screening earnings of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The film also beat out the sneak peek earnings of Bumblebee which earned a measly $500k from its own early screenings this month. However, with only 325 theaters for the Transformers spinoff movie, it's pretty hard to make a direct comparison to the earnings of Aquaman.
While the sneak peeks' earnings don't count as an official opening number, the film's Saturday night grosses made the film the 10th highest grossing offering in the US this weekend, beating the $2.6 million three-day opening weekend haul of Once Upon a Deadpool.
Aquaman also enjoyed big numbers during its opening in China last week, raking in $261 million at the international box office during its opening weekend in the East Asian country. That's a whole lot of cash for a DC film, and analysts are hoping for a long and leggy run for the film. Not only has Aquaman been enjoying strong word of mouth from fans, but it's also enjoyed comparisons to both Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
