What is Netflix's Agents of Mystery About?
Agents of Mystery is a new Korean reality series that debuted its six episodes on Netflix on June 18.
From visionary producer Jeong Jong-Yeon, the show sets itself apart from other mystery game shows simply because this one highlights the adventure of the gamers rather than the process of solving the problems. Some of the fans are already craving for another season to come:
"When directing mystery reality shows, I don't typically prioritize the act of solving mysteries," Jung explained, "The essence of the show revolves around the cast members embarking on adventures, with solving mysteries being secondary."
The agents are on a mission to find three missing people who share the same birthday and whether the crew members are still alive while uncovering the whole truth behind the case. Meet the agents working on-screen!
Meet THE Agents Behind the Netflix Series
There are six 'agents' running in the game: Baeksang Arts Award-winning comedian and singer Lee Yong-Jin, R&B artist and TV veteran John Park, Baeksang Arts Award winner Lee Eun-Ji, beloved Reply 1988 star Lee Hye-Ri, breakout Disney+'s Moving star Kim Do-Hoon, and Aespa's leader, Karina.
Through their combined intellect, skill, experience, and resourcefulness, these six personalities must work together to investigate and accomplish their missions to put their ensemble to the ultimate test of teamwork.
Now, considering that the majority of the people on this list are experienced on Variety shows, could this possibly mean that Agents of Mystery may be scripted, after all? Well, here's why fans think so.
Is the New Korean Series Scripted? Fans Seem to Think So
The posed question was thanks to the fact that Netflix labeled the reality series as 'unscripted' without being asked, which ironically drew fans to presume it is scripted, despite the implication.
According to fans, there is no such thing as an "unscripted variety show" and some shows are "better at seeming unscripted" than others. Others have based their initial opinions on how 'scripted' the series looked in the official trailer.
However, show producer Jeong Jong-Yeon begged to disagree, "It's not scripted, of course."
Jeong added how important it was to make sure that "they just enjoyed the adventurous experiences of the show while expressing their emotions freely", which would make the show much more enjoyable for viewers.
