US President Donald Trump’s attendance at the Men’s Singles final of the 2025 US Open on Sunday, September 7, at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York, caused chaos for tennis fans and celebrities alike due to heightened security.

Returning to the tournament after 10 years—his last appearance being in 2015—he was once again met with a series of boos, which he responded to with a brief smirk.

So, what exactly happened during Trump’s appearance at the sports event?

What Happened at Donald Trump’s 2025 US Open Appearance?

Attending the 2025 US Open alongside Trump turned into absolute chaos for attendees and even celebrities, who had to wait in long lines to get into the arena.

“It is an absolute s–t show,” a source told Page Six. “Cars can’t get into parking lots, and people are walking miles. Even celebs are having to wait like normies.”

To make matters worse, the insider added, security “has stopped entry in so many ways.”

Even A-list stars like Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas, and Ben Stiller had to wait in line like everyone else.

Iconic Will & Grace star Debra Messing reportedly had to sit in her car “for an hour” and wasn’t even allowed to get out, while Lindsay Lohan was seen wandering the parking lots.

Eventually, Stiller managed to be seated alongside other celebrities such as Mindy Kaling, Bruce Springsteen, B.J. Novak, and Sting as they watched Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz’s match.

As thousands of fans trickled into the match, the Secret Service said in a statement (via The Guardian) that protecting the president “required a comprehensive effort” that “may have contributed to delays for attendees.”

How Was Donald Trump Welcomed at the 2025 US Open?

Just like his last attendance at the US Open in 2015, when he was booed after leaving a match between Serena and Venus Williams, Trump was once again met with boos as stadium monitors showed him saluting while a member of West Point performed The Star-Spangled Banner.

Although a burst of cheers could be heard, it was quickly drowned out by jeers, prompting the POTUS to give a quick smirk.

After the first changeover, he appeared on the big screen again, causing viewers to roar boos even louder—until the camera finally panned away.

The president used to be a fixture at the US Open, often featured on the big screen and frequently met with boos.

By the looks of it, nothing has changed and tensions may have even intensified since his 2015 presidential campaign, which kicked off with a fiery announcement speech targeting immigrants and foreign allies.

In contrast, Springsteen received an entirely different reception when shown on camera, drawing deafening cheers from fans, aware of his history as a frequent target of Trump’s criticism.

With that being said, it seems that Trump’s attendance at the 2025 US Open was unwelcome by many critics and haters alike.
