Where You May Have Seen Yuyu Kitamura Before
Before we take a deep dive into Niko Sasaki's role beyond being Crystal's best friend in Dead Boy Detectives, here are a couple of movies and series where you may have seen her actress, Yuyu Kitamura, previously.
The Japanese actress made her debut as Tara in the 2018 short Clique Bait before graduating from NYU Tisch School of Arts in 2019.
In the early years of her acting career, she was mostly seen shining in a couple of short films from 2018 to 2021. These short flicks include Joke's on Them, Legacy, and Breaking the Silence, to name a few.
When it comes to starring on TV shows, she lent her voice to the roles of Clara and Rivers in the 2020 podcast Meet Cute Rom-Coms and starred as Lucia in the 2024 Nicole Kidman series, Expats.
This 2024, we finally get the chance to watch Kitamura as one of the main recurring characters on a Netflix show, Dead Boy Detectives.

Meet Crystal's Best Friend in Dead Boy Detectives: Niko Sasaki
Niko Sasaki (played by Yuyu Kitamura) is Crystal Palace's (Kassius Nelson) best friend in the Netflix series, Dead Boy Detectives.
Niko left Japan to attend her high school years in Port Townsend, Washington, instead. However, after her father dies due to her affliction with the supernatural, she encounters the Dead Boy Detectives and uses her ability to see ghosts to help them out.
Keep in mind that Niko's investigation skills were shaped by watching Scooby-Doo and reading her manga collection at home.
Needless to say, though, her ability to talk to the dead proves she's crucial in the Detective Agency.
