There is little doubt that Yasuke is one of the most mysterious figures in Japanese history. The African slave who would rise to become one of the daimyo Oda Nobunaga's most trusted allies has a story that would make an amazing movie. But what about an anime that includes some supernatural elements? Netflix has just released the trailer for the new series Yasuke.

The trailer opens with Yasuke's arrival in Japan where he immediately defends a young boy from an angry merchant. It doesn't take long before his actions reach Nobunaga, who becomes interested in the slave.

At one point, other people take interest in Yasuke as well. A noblewoman tells him that Nobunaga only awards those who have proven themselves and declares that Yasuke has her respect.

However, things don't turn out too well as Nobunaga dies and Yasuke becomes ronin. Nevertheless, he finds a new purpose in life when he meets a young girl with a strange gift who is being hunted by a power-hungry warlord.

Interestingly, the Yasuke trailer also reveals some unexpected changes in the man's story. For instance, it suggests that the warrior was the one who aided Nobunaga when he committed seppuku. However, it is important to remember that the anime is an alternate-reality adaptation of Yasuke's legend.
