Ousama Ranking, or Ranking of Kings, became an instant hit when it first premiered in 2021. Starring the beloved Prince Bojji, this fantasy series, created by Sousuke Tooka, quickly became a fan favorite due to its charming story and unique art style.

However, with the anime concluding after two seasons and the manga remaining inactive since 2023, many believed the series had come to an end.

That is, until recently, when the author released new chapters that surprised fans and wondered about the possibility of a new season for the anime.

On December 31, 2024, Sousuke Tooka treated fans with chapter 232 of Ranking of Kings. It was a comeback that fans have been anticipating for two years.

Many were saddened when it was announced that the manga would not be continued after updating it with chapters 230 and 231 in April 2023.

During this time, episodes of Ranking of Kings: The Treasure Chest of Courage were being aired. Just like the manga, this was the last anime adaptation Wit Studio made for the franchise.

Season 1 of Ranking of Kings released in 2021 had positive reception among viewers that it surely should have been followed with a second season after one or two years.

However, Ranking of Kings never got a second season, instead, Treasure of Chest Courage aired in 2023. It was a spin-off that featured a collection of side stories and backstories of the series’ characters.

While it was an addition to the franchise welcomed by many, The Treasure Chest of Courage was still a mini-series that did not follow through Bojji’s adventures and felt more of a filler.

One reason a second season hasn’t happened is that there were no additional manga chapters left to adapt, as all available material had already been covered in Season 1.

In June 2023, a Ranking of Kings movie was announced. With no manga chapters left to draw from, some believed it would be an original story. Fans hoped it would maintain the show’s high animation quality, but there have been no updates beyond the initial announcement.

The manga’s hiatus felt like the final nail in the coffin for some fans, especially since the reason for Sousuke Tooka’s break remains unclear.

Thankfully, the manga started releasing new updates again. Since December 31, new chapters have been added.

Because of the recent updates, fans are hoping there will be announcements on an upcoming second season soon.

It may seem too soon to predict, but if the manga chapters keep coming regularly, many believe it will not take years again for the anime to have some material to adapt.

Season 1 of Ranking of Kings ended with its 23rd episode, where Bojji defeated King Bosse, and Daida made the heartfelt decision to step aside and give the throne to his brother.

Once weak and considered useless, Bojji trained tirelessly to reach his current strength, with Kage’s unwavering support. However, new challenges lie ahead, and his journey is far from over.

Part 2 of Ranking of Kings began with Chapter 156 in the manga. Without spoiling anything, the chapters that follow where the anime left off introduce new adventures and formidable enemies that put Bojji’s growth and resolve to the ultimate test.

The story is far from finished, and with new material now available, fans have plenty to look forward to.
