Guillermo del Toro is set to end his directorial efforts after Netflix releases the latest adaptation of Frankenstein. While Guillermo had been in the Hollywood scene since the 1980s, he recently announced his departure from helming some of the greatest movies of all time.

What Did Guillermo del Toro Say About His Directorial Journey?

Del Toro had a distinct cinematography style in his movies across the horror, fantasy, and adventure genres. Apart from the beautiful narrative and the common aesthetic, he had a way of effortlessly grabbing the viewers' attention.

From his rise to fame in his first feature, Cronos in 1993, to The Shape of Water, Pan's Labyrinth, and Hellboy, he went far beyond what he had promised his viewers.

That, however, will come to an end once Netflix premieres the latest Frankenstein movie.

In Empire's issue of Wicked: For Good, del Toro made his announcement of departing from the usual theatrics and plans to explore a different take on his directorial journey.

"[Frankenstein] closes the cycle," del Toro said, "If you look at the lineage [Cronos, The Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth, & Crimson Peak], this is an evolution of a certain type of aesthetic, and a certain type of rhythm, and a certain type of empathy."

He added how he needed a chance of pace, "I feel like I need a change. You never know, the day after tomorrow, I may want to do Jekyll & Hyde, or whatever. But right now, my desire is to try and do something very different."

How Different is del Toro's Frankenstein From the Classics?

There is no doubt that del Toro's Frankenstein is set to be another classic, which would not only showcase why people have always and continue to love his works but also recognize his directorial signature.

The change of pace might offer a different perspective on how he pours his blood, sweat, and tears into his work, and it goes without saying that his stamp will always exist, even in post-Frankenstein films. Here's how del Toro Frankenstein.

Instead of the traditional horror film, this Frankenstein defines a more humanistic retelling, similar to how del Toro executed his own take on Pinocchio.

According to first reviews, this film dives into the deeper dynamics between the egotistical scientist Victor Frankenstein and the unnamed creature he brought to life through a collection of stitched body parts.

Frankenstein is slated for a limited theatrical release on October 17. Stay tuned for more updates on this story!
