- Quick Answer: While there are no official plans for his return after No Way Home, actor Alfred Molina stated he would "do it again, no doubt" if Marvel calls.
When Spider-Man: No Way Home blew the doors off the multiverse, it gave iconic villains like Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus a second chance at redemption. But with the Marvel Cinematic Universe constantly expanding, fans are left wondering: could the brilliant, multi-limbed scientist make one more surprise return?
Will Doc Ock Return After Spider-Man: No Way Home?

Doctor Otto Octavius' story may have ended in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 and again in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but is there a chance Alfred Molina could reprise the villainous role for the last time? Considering that the Multiverse can grant any alternative universe into the main timeline, there's a possibility to bring back characters to the big screens, but would Molina take that opportunity?
"Who knows? When I did Spider-Man 2 for Sam Raimi back in 2004, I remember at the time they had me on a three-movie option," Molina recalled and told Variety in a recent interview, explaining that the contract meant they could choose to renew his return, even after he died and sacrificed himself at the end of it.
One of Molina's concerns upon reprising Doc Ock in No Way Home was having 'crow's feet' and a 'double chin' after he played the character 17 years ago. But Amy Pascal reassured they could 'fix all that with technology', which made his return in No Way Home possible.
"So, I jumped in, and No Way Home was great fun. Now, if it comes up, I don't know what the future holds," Molina continued, "I think we might have to just leave Doc Ock in a nice, prominent place in the rogues' gallery of villains, but honestly, if they came knocking on my door and said we'd love you to do it again, no doubt. I doubt if it'll happen, though."
How Doc Ock Could Return, According to Alfred Molina

There's no telling where Doc Ock could return, especially when Spider-Man: Brand New Day is opening a different chapter for the web-slinging Peter Parker in his college life. And as Molina noted, Doc Ock had also had his redemption arc by the end of No Way Home. Doc Ock redeemed himself after his broken inhibitor chip was finally cured. How exactly could he make a comeback from that?
For now, his future in the MCU remains bleak. But that doesn't stop the veteran actor from 'loving' the franchise.
"Yeah. I love those movies," Molina told the outlet when asked about Brand New Day. "I honestly don't know too much about the new one. I'm not even sure who the villain is."
While the mechanical arms might stay locked away for now, fans won't have to wait long for the next chapter of street-level Marvel action. Spider-Man: Brand New Day premieres in theaters on July 31, 2026. Stay tuned!
