Choujin X: A Dark Fantasy Manga by Tokyo Ghoul's Creator

Choujin X is a seinen manga written and illustrated by Sui Ishida, who is best known for the dark fantasy seinen Tokyo Ghoul.

Ishida's newest ongoing creation is similarly themed. It follows two childhood friends named Tokio Kurohara and Azuma Higashi.

The latter has a strong sense of justice and isn't afraid to fight for what is right, but he's academically oriented too, and doing well at school.

Tokio doesn't care about school as much, and he's a bystander in his friend's fights.

Their home is Yamato Prefecture, an area that has almost been destroyed by Choujin, supernatural entities with enhanced powers.

When the two friends are pursued and threatened by a formerly defeated enemy, injecting themselves with a drug that will give them the powers of the Choujin is their only choice.

While the drug has no visible effect on Azuma, Tokio grows a beak and must now navigate life as a Choujin in a world that doesn't want him to have such abilities.

While not too different from Tokyo Ghoul in terms of its premise and form, we would say that Choujin X stands a chance to be animated. Tokyo Ghoul is fairly popular, and its first season was very enjoyable.

Although everything got derailed from there on, destroying many fans' initially fond memories, anyone picking up Choujin X would probably try to avoid similar mistakes.

Its plot isn't groundbreaking, but the formula of a regular bystander who gains supernatural abilities that change his life works again and again, with stories such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man dominating the anime scene.

We think that Choujin X's dark aesthetics would translate very well onto the screen.

That being said, not everything needs to be animated, so the manga will remain enjoyable whether or not it gets an anime.

As of writing, a Choujin X anime has not been confirmed. Previous leaks online claimed that the anime would get adapted by Pierrot, the studio that animated Tokyo Ghoul, but those rumors remain unfounded.

Choujin X is currently ongoing with a little over 40 chapters, so it would make sense for any studio to wait for a bit until there's enough content for a full and faithful anime adaptation.
