A few months later, the film was officially announced, with Travis Knight at the helm. Then, in 2024, it was described as the “most ambitious film” Laika had ever produced.
With the movie taking around 15 years to make, author Colin Meloy is skeptical about whether a Wildwood sequel will happen, although Knight has already expressed interest.
“I don't know if there have been. I mean, Travis has said he would like to, but I don't know. It takes so long,” he told ScreenRant. “I think a lot of it depends on how much this one probably resonates with audiences, and things like that. So, I don't even know!”
Prue voice actor Peyton Elizabeth Lee, on the other hand, believes everyone needs a break following the film’s completion after more than a decade of work.
However, if a second film were to be made, Lee would surely love to be part of it.
“They just finished making this film, like, three weeks ago!,” he added. “So, I think they probably want a little break from the story. But when and if they come back around, I'd definitely love to be part of it. Even if just to work with this creative genius [Jacob Tremblay] once again!”

Wildwood follows two seventh-graders, Prue and Curtis, as they embark on an adventure in a hidden, magical forest to rescue Prue’s baby brother, Mac, after he is kidnapped by crows.
