The original Naked Gun director, David Zucker, has expressed his disdain over the recently released reboot starring Liam Neeson.
Last summer, the long-awaited reboot of the beloved spoof comedy was released to modest success. It ended up grossing around $100 million and was praised by many critics for its successful modern take on the franchise and the clever jokes and punchlines that were reminiscent of the original films. However, one of the creators is not a fan of the new film after all.
What Does David Zucker Think of The Naked Gun Reboot?

In a recent interview on Woman's World, Zucker opened up about his thoughts on the new reboot of The Naked Gun starring Liam Neeson and produced by Seth MacFarlane.
He felt that the creative team behind the new film "missed" the mark on how to do a proper spoof comedy.
"My brother, Jerry, and our partner, Jim Abrahams, started doing spoof comedies 50 years ago, and we originated our own style—and we did that so well that it looks easy, evidently," the original director said.
"People started copying it, like [producer] Seth MacFarlane for the new Naked Gun. He totally missed it. There’s a certain method to the madness. We had our 15 rules, and I’m teaching them in the hopes that if anybody tries to do a movie like this again, they’ll do it right."
Zucker went on to explain the "rules" of doing spoof comedy and criticized the reboot for having a "big budget," as he believes that not a lot of money should be spent on making this kind of film.
"You shouldn’t spend too much money on comedies, and one of our rules is about technical pizzazz. Big budgets and comedy are opposites, and in the new Naked Gun, you could see that they spent a lot of money on scenes full of technical pizzazz while trying to copy our style," he said.
