Everything is always interconnected in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this includes how the Spider-Man films are in the franchise. Tom Holland, however, recently debunked that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on a completely new direction. Here's what he said.
Why is Spider-Man: Brand New Day Not a Fourth Spider-Man Film?

"It really feels like we aren't making the fourth movie," Holland recently told Complex, "We're making the first movie in the chapter... This is a rebirth. This is something completely new."
If fans think hard about it, Brand New Day will kick things off after audiences watched Peter Parker mourning over his Aunt May's death and being forgotten by the whole world, including his girlfriend (Zendaya's Michelle Jones-Watson) and his best friend (Jacob Batalon's Ned Leeds).
That said, the "rebirth" in question here is the fact that Peter is finally off to college, while literally having to start anew. No friends, no fans of his superhero alter-ego, and new comrades waiting to unravel on the big screens.
What may drive fans even happier is how the new Spidey suit might fit Holland in the upcoming film: "This is a lot comfier than anything I've worn in the past. The new suit is really designed in a completely different way from the previous iterations."
According to The Odyssey star, the new costume is "a lot more flexible" and "leans into different sides of the character that I haven't been able to before." But here's the real kicker of what Holland's sentiment really means for the upcoming Brand New Day film.
What Tom Holland's Words Mean for Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Shifting Tone
One of the main MCU fans' complaints about Tom Holland's superhero era is the fact that he is never fighting alone. In Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions, they got to build their own costumes and rescue their own backs with the webs they developed themselves.
Considering Holland's words on the suit and not to consider Brand New Day as a part of the trilogy, perhaps we'll be seeing a more mature veteran hero who plans to start from scratch as he earns back the title of being one of the Avengers. Perhaps this time is his second chance to prove what he's capable of.

Holland also noted that even his new costume could sway fans into how much Parker has changed over his films. As it turns out, his newest Spidey suit was influenced by his fellow Spider-Man variants in No Way Home, and notes he is "really glad that [fans] are picking up on the homage to Tobey and Andrew's suits."
Spider-Man: Brand New Day premieres on the big screens on July 31, 2026. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming movie!
