One of the most-awaited movie announcements is which actor Amazon MGM Studios and director Denis Villeneuve will cast to play the next James Bond. In a recent interview with The Independent, former James Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams opened up about the casting rumors surrounding the next 007.

In case you're not familiar with her work, she was responsible for casting Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig during her time in the franchise.

She objected to the idea that the likes of Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, or Harris Dickinson should get cast to play the new James Bond, due to their current popularity.

"I don’t want to see any of them as James Bond," McWilliams said. "It is absolutely essential that [Bond] retains a total enigma. I don’t want to see any of them as Bond because we now know so much about them. We want to know as little about them personally as possible, because that’s what spies are."

The former James Bond casting director argued that the actor who should play the next 007 is an unknown face that is not yet familiar to the movie audience.

She continued, "We don’t need to know where he goes shopping or who his parents are, or where he lives. We never want to see him at home. And a vital element of the whole thing is his job description. He’s licensed to kill, and we have to believe that he can do that. If you don’t, then you’ve lost the audience."

McWilliams noted that the previous James Bond actors were not popular stars during the time that they were cast in the role.

"Timothy and Pierce weren’t particularly well known. Daniel had had a career in independent films and a fairly colorful romantic life beforehand, but he wasn’t a household name, and that helps enormously. I want to see somebody who is completely out of the blue," she said.

So far, the casting and plot details regarding the next James Bond movie are still under wraps. The casting process for who will be the next 007 is still ongoing, and it is unknown when the final decision will be made.

Amy Pascal and David Heyman serve as producers of the project, while Denis Villeneuve has been tapped to direct the installment and also serve as an executive producer. Steven Knight is currently working on the screenplay.

Since Villeneuve is still busy with the post-production on Dune: Part Three, it might take a while before fans hear more news and updates. For now, stay tuned for the development in the coming months.
