Netflix's popular sports romance anime, Blue Box, has fans excited about new episodes every Thursday. However, episode 13 won’t be airing this year. Instead, part 2 of Season 1 is set to release in January 2025.
When their official X account shared that episode 13 wouldn’t be coming next week, fans were immediately concerned about the show’s status. As expected, the announcement had viewers wondering about the sudden brief hiatus.
Why Is Blue Box Going on a Short Hiatus?
Blue Box Episode 12 was released on December 19, 2024. The episode, titled “Girls…,” shows Taiki and Chinatsu sharing quiet and heartfelt moments at a fireworks festival.
Shortly after the episode dropped, the anime’s X account posted that there would be a 1-week break before Part 2 of Blue Box is released.
Since Japan airs episodes a week ahead of international Netflix, this announcement caused some confusion for fans wondering whether Season 1 is still going or if it has already ended.
There hasn’t been an official statement explaining why Blue Box won’t release a new episode until January, but fans think it’s common for some series to take a break over the holidays. Some are hopeful this decision was intentional and not due to a production issue. Since it’s just a brief hiatus, most signs point to the former.
This is somewhat reminiscent of Blue Box manga author Kouji Miura’s 1-week hiatus in August this year, with Chapter 162 being released in the 40th issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump instead of the 39th.
Blue Box is expected to return on January 2, 2025, with fans hoping new episodes will drop every week until the 25th episode.
What to Expect from Blue Box Part 2?
Fans are probably counting down the days until January after Episode 12 ended on a bittersweet note! Chinatsu asking the sleeping Taiki if he’s dating Hina shows us how her feelings toward her housemate are changing.
True to her character, Chinatsu doesn't tell Taiki that she saw him and Hina on a date at the festival, even though Taiki said he’d go with a group.
The episode shines at the moments our characters watch the fireworks display together, with the usual spectacular visuals and atmosphere that captures the awkwardness of teens being in love in their youth.
Since the anime has already covered manga chapters up to 37, Cour 2 will adapt the National Arc, where the basketball and badminton players push themselves hard to train for the nationals.
Taiki will continue to give his best, aiming to prove he’s worthy of Chinatsu by earning a spot on the starting team and making it to the finals.
