Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? or DanMachi is a popular fantasy harem anime adapted from Fujino Omori’s light novels. Now in its fifth season, the series is covering the Goddess of Fertility Arc, with 15 episodes planned.
The twelfth episode was originally set to air on December 27, but J.C. Staff, the studio in charge of production, announced that the show is on hiatus until further notice.
Unsurprisingly, this left fans wondering about the reasons behind the delay. How are DanMachi fans reacting to this unfortunate news? If you’re curious, you can find out more below.
Why is DanMachi Going on Hiatus?
Season 5 of DanMachi is highly anticipated for a good number of reasons. For one, it largely focuses on the Goddess of Love, Freya, whose intentions to win Bell Cranel’s heart become more apparent.
Another reason is that Season 5 features the War Game between the Hestia and Freya Familias. This battle is expected to involve an intense conflict pitting Freya's Familia against multiple other Familias, which will determine Bell Cranel's fate.
Fans have been eager to see the Goddess of Fertility Arc fully adapted, so the delayed release of episodes came as an unexpected disappointment.
J.C. Staff addressed the delay in an announcement on their X (formerly Twitter) account, apologizing for the sudden change in Episode 12’s release schedule. They first expressed gratitude to fans for their continued support before explaining the reason behind the delay.
Due to production issues, they decided to postpone the release of Episode 12, emphasizing their commitment to delivering episodes at a quality fans would be satisfied with.
As an apology, J.C. Staff prepared special episodes for fans. On December 27, the “Goddess of the Harvest Arc Cast Gathering Year-End Party” special aired on Tokyo MX and BS11 channels and will be available on the AT-X channel on December 30. Additionally, the first 11 episodes of Season 5 were streamed on ABEMA from December 27 to 28.
At the time of writing, J.C. Staff announced on X that Episode 12’s official release is set for spring, accompanied by a new key visual, though the exact date remains unknown.
What Are Fans' Reactions to the Delay
With how things have turned out for DanMachi Season 5’s production, fans are understandably not taking these announcements lightly.
As expected, many took to X and Reddit to express their disappointment.
However, some were quick to point out that, in certain cases, the production staff isn’t to blame. Others see the delay as an opportunity for the team to refine each episode to a higher standard.
Some who haven’t started watching the season yet surprisingly don’t seem too upset. For them, the delay provides an opportunity to catch up on the previous episodes without feeling rushed.
It’s not hard to see that J.C. Staff may be facing these production challenges due to an overloaded schedule or possibly being understaffed.
Tight deadlines are a serious issue in the industry, often leading to delays or episodes that don’t meet quality expectations. This year alone, several anime productions have encountered similar setbacks.
Fortunately, most DanMachi fans seem to be understanding and patient. J.C. Staff is also making an effort to keep fans engaged by offering specials and regular updates, rather than leaving them in the dark.
