- Key Update: Sam Raimi explained why he is dismissing the possibility of a fourth Spider-Man movie.
- Status: Confirmed

- Quick Answer: Sam Raimi is not making Spider-Man 4 because he believes the franchise belongs to a new generation and returning to his version would be inappropriate.
For years, a dedicated corner of the fandom has held out hope that Sam Raimi would resurrect his canceled Spider-Man 4. The desire to see Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker swing through a solo adventure once more reached a fever pitch after his triumphant return in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Seeing him appear alongside his successors reignited hope that a legacy sequel was finally within reach.
However, despite the persistent rumors and nostalgic fervor, the reality of the current cinematic landscape suggests that the door to the "Raimi-verse" is more firmly shut than ever. Here's why fans should stop expecting Spider-Man 4 from Raimi.
Why Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 is Unlikely to Happen

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Raimi shot down any possibility of doing Spider-Man 4 and his versions of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson "have gone elsewhere" in that universe.
He explained that he has already moved on from the franchise, especially since fans are "really into" the current version of Spider-Man with Tom Holland.
"Stan Lee’s great character — that a bullpen of writers in New York at Marvel had come up with stories for — he created the character, but so many people contributed, so many artists, that for a brief time I was handed the torch to carry on after 40 years of Spider-Man comics," the director said.
"And then after my three movies, I handed the torch off to someone else. And I think they’ve got to keep running with the storyline and the audience that is now following the torchbearer."
Raimi added that it wouldn't "be right for me to go back and try and resurrect my version of this story" while the current MCU version of Spider-Man is being explored.
As fans know, Raimi managed to return to the Marvel universe a few years ago as he directed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It remains unknown whether he will be directing another Marvel movie anytime soon.
What to Expect in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Just like any other MCU film, the plot details regarding Spider-Man: Brand New Day are under wraps. It is expected to take place some time before the events of Avengers: Doomsday.
Aside from Tom Holland, the cast also includes Zendaya (MJ), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk), Michael Mando (Scorpion), Liza Colon-Zayas, Marvin Jones III (Tombstone), and Tramell Tillman.
Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi) is directing the film. The Jackie Chan Stunt Team is involved in choreographing the fight sequences. It is currently slated for release in theaters on July 31, 2026.
