Sabito was one of the former water hashira's most promising students, with superior battle strength and intellect over other aspirants. He might be highly skilled, but Sabito ruined the purpose of the Final Selection in Demon Slayer.
Joining the Demon Slayer Corps requires a great deal of courage, effort, dedication, and hard work. It's not easy to do since one minute someone is a human and the next they're demon food.
That is why the Demon Slayer Corps organized the Final Selection, which will test the hopefuls to their limit.
How Did Sabito Ruin the Final Selection in Demon Slayer?
Before Tanjiro and his fellow aspirants went to Fujikasane Mountain, two of Urokodaki Sakonji's former students, Sabito and Giyu, struggled for a spot in the Demon Slayer Corps.
They were hopeful and had high ambitions of ridding the world of vicious demons that feed on humanity and bring unfathomable suffering.
Despite their differences, they all wanted to kill Muzan because defeating him meant the end of the other demons.
However, at the Final Selection, things took an unexpected turn thanks to none other than Sabito, who was regarded as one of the most promising examinees at the time.
Demon Slayer’s Sabito Defeated the Purpose of the Final Selection
It is widely implied that the goal of the Final Selection is to weed out all aspiring demon slayers to separate the weak from the powerful.
It's similar to Naruto's Chunin Examinations but more dangerous because no one is present to intervene when things get rough.
Of course, Naruto fans might argue that the same rules apply to the chunin tests, but let's be honest: hopefuls have a better chance of making it out alive in the Chunin Exams than in the Final Selection, where no one notices if you're on the verge of death.
When Sabito and Giyu took the examinations, one of them stood out for their combat abilities.
It was Sabito who defeated almost all of the demons except the Hand Demon, who claimed his life.
Sabito carried Giyu and the other examinees to the end, regardless of whether they were weak, terrified, or injured, at the cost of his life, completely negating the goal of the Final Selection, which was to prevent the weak from passing.
That is how Sabito was, but if he had lived, things would have been different. He could have been a hashira, saving many lives and resources in the process.
