Friends star David Schwimmer admitted recently that he stopped listening to the show's iconic theme song after hearing it too many times.

Up to this day, Friends remains one of the most popular TV shows around the world, despite ending its run more than 20 years ago, as people today still discover it on streaming.

In a recent interview on Matt Lucas and David Walliams’ Making a Scene podcast, Schwimmer revealed that he stopped listening to the Friends theme song as it was played too many times both during and after the show's run.

"I’ll be really honest, there was a time for quite a while that just hearing the theme song would really… I just had that reaction. I mean, I just had heard it so many times," he said.

The theme song was still following Schwimmer even years after the show ended.

He added, "Any time you’d go on a show or a talk show or an interview, that would be your intro song. So I just didn’t have the greatest response to it."

Schwimmer also admitted that he stopped watching the series after it ended as he wanted to move on from that phase of his life.

"For me, it’s like, I did it, I’m moving on. I don’t really go back and revisit," he said.

However, he started rewatching the series again when his daughter Cleo "discovered it around age 9 or something."

"I’d be making breakfast or whatever, and I’d hear my kid’s laughter. My whole relationship to that song and to the show changed," Schwimmer shared.

Is Friends Reboot/Reunion on the Horizon?

There are no plans at the moment to reboot or revisit Friends, despite the show's ongoing popularity and the current state of Hollywood, where old IP titles are being mined constantly.

The untimely passing of Matthew Perry in late 2023 may have also prevented any chances for the surviving cast members to reunite again for a reboot or another reunion special anytime soon.

The last time that the entire cast showed up together was in HBO Max's Friends: The Reunion special that aired in 2021. It was Perry's last on-screen appearance.

The original creators of the series have also shut down the idea of doing a reboot starring the original characters' children.
