Cynthia Erivo did not attend the 2026 Golden Globe Awards ceremony, despite being nominated for her performance in Wicked: For Good. Fans have been wondering why she was not present.
The acclaimed actress is back in the race this season with her breathtaking performance as Elphaba in Wicked: For Good. Once again, critics and audiences praised her turn as the iconic character. It led to another nomination in the Best Actress - Musical or Comedy category in the 2026 Golden Globe Awards. Unfortunately, she was not present at the ceremony this time around.
Why Cynthia Erivo Skipped the 2026 Golden Globe Awards

Erivo's decision to skip the 2026 Golden Globe Awards was already made official days before the event took place. Variety confirmed the Wicked: For Good star's planned absence from the event last week.
The actress was not able to attend the ceremony as she is currently preparing for the upcoming one-woman stage adaptation of Dracula in London, which is set to begin previews on February 4. She is set to play 23 characters, including the titular role.
With her busy schedule at the moment, Erivo was unable to have free time to fly to Los Angeles and attend the ceremony with the Wicked: For Good team and find out whether she would win.
Erivo's co-star and best friend, Ariana Grande, was able to attend the ceremony as she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. She was the only cast member of the film who was present at the event.
Rose Byrne from If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You eventually won Best Actress - Musical or Comedy, beating Erivo, Kate Hudson, Chase Infiniti, Emma Stone, and Amanda Seyfried.
Wicked: For Good eventually left the ceremony empty-handed despite having five nominations (including two for Best Original Song). It also failed to receive a nomination in Best Picture - Musical or Comedy.
What Did Cynthia Erivo Think of Her Golden Globe Nomination?
While Erivo did not eventually attend the 2026 Golden Globes ceremony, she was happy to receive the nomination when she reacted to the announcement last December.
Not only that, the Wicked: For Good star also made history as the first Black woman to be nominated for Best Actress - Musical or Comedy twice.
"I hope there are many more to come, not just for me, but for other Black women. I hope it’s just the beginning. What a wonderful thing to do that and be a part of changing history a little bit and hopefully open up doors for someone else too," Erivo said.
