It's official! Girls Trip is coming back for a sequel. This time around, the girls are going to West Africa. Here's what you need to know about this sequel.
Is Girls Trip 2 Confirmed?
Yes, the announcement came straight from Tracy Oliver, who co-wrote the original film. Oliver revealed the good news at the Variety Studio presented by Audible and revealed some details about the reunion project of Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tiffany Haddish, and Queen Latifah.
"It's officially happening. I can say that."
The Harlem director also said that while producer Will Packer "might kill me [Oliver], we're looking to set it in Ghana."
This actually isn't the first time plans for a sequel first came up. In an appearance on Good Morning America in early 2022, Packer was asked about his plans for a Girls Trip sequel. He answered:
"I think that the time is actually right, and this is something that I will tell you and break right now at GMA: the Girls Trip 2 sequel, we are underway."
When Is Girls Trip 2 Coming Out?
With her revelation, Oliver said that she is still working on the script.
In the Variety interview, Oliver got a suggestion by Harlem actor Shoniqua Shandai when she said they'll be going to Ghana.
"Afrochella!"
Oliver then confirmed that they will look into attending the festival, which is known as Ghana's own adaptation of the famous Coachella convention. Some of the biggest musical acts have joined the annual event, such as Beyonce.
For now, however, Oliver still needs to complete her script for approval.
Possible Girls Trip 2 Story
Since Oliver is still working on a script for the sequel, we don't know yet what the story will be. But it will bring back the group of girl friends, known as the Flossy Posse, together again.
The original Girls Trip film followed four women who reunited for a much-awaited vacation at New Orleans' Essence Music Festival. What follows next is a series of chaotic yet fun moments that are enough to last a lifetime.
If Oliver follows Shandai's advice, it's possible that she'll bring the Flossy Posse to Afrochella in the sequel.

Right now, there's no confirmation yet on who'll be back in the sequel. But the main stars of the original movie included:
