Elon Musk has several children with multiple partners, but only one has openly stepped into the spotlight and made her complicated relationship with her father known—the transgender Vivian Jenna Wilson.
In a recent interview with Teen Vogue, Wilson shared details about her estrangement from Musk and expressed her disapproval of his political actions and personal conduct.
As she is the only one who is bluntly speaking about her dad and their relationship, learn more about Wilson and her estrangement from her dad.
Who is Vivian Wilson?
Born Xavier Alexander Musk in 2004, Wilson is one of Musk’s five children with his first wife, Canadian author Justine Musk.
Technically the eldest living child of the tech magnate following the death of her older brother, Nevada Alexander Musk, in 2002 due to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at 10 weeks old, she also has a twin, Griffin Musk.
At 18, Wilson legally changed her name and gender to distance herself from her father. In fact, she cited her desire to cut all her ties with Musk, saying in court documents that she “no longer lives with or wishes to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”
She now uses her mother’s maiden name, Wilson, and lives in Tokyo, Japan, to study languages, hoping to be a translator.
Since coming out in 2020, Wilson has been financially independent and relies on her own resources to pursue her education and advocacy work.
Who is Vivian Wilson’s Mother and Siblings?
Wilson is the daughter of Justine Wilson, a Canadian author and Musk’s first wife. The two tied the knot in January 2000 and got a divorce in September 2008.
In a talk with Marie Claire, Justine revealed that Musk was dismissive of her career ambitions, stressing he was the “alpha” in their relationship and pressuring her to be his “trophy wife.”
The former couple had six children: Nevada, twins Vivian and Griffin, and triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian Musk.
However, if Wilson has to include her half-siblings, she said she does “not actually know how many siblings I have.”
Estrangement from Elon Musk
Wilson’s relationship with Musk has been strained for years. She has publicly criticized the de facto head of the Department of Government Efficiency for his views on transgender issues and wealth inequality.
On his end, Musk told psychologist and social media influencer Jordan Peterson in a discussion in 2024 that he had lost his son due to “woke mind and virus” and went on anti-transgender slurs.
He also claimed in a post on X that Wilson was “born gay and slightly autistic,” which he saw as traits contributing to gender dysphoria, remembering that she would “pick out clothes for me to wear like a jacket and tell me it was ‘fabulous’” when she was a child.
Wilson, on the other hand, did not mince words when she called Musk a “pathetic man-child” and described him and his associates as having “the charisma of a soaking bathrobe.”
She also revealed that Musk was emotionally distant, narcissistic, “cold,” and “quick to anger” when she was a child, especially when she was already displaying feminine traits.
Wilson’s remarks about Musk just show the emotional toll of their estranged relationship. As she continues to live independently, she remains steadfast in her belief that wealth and power do not define character—a sentiment clearly directed at Musk
