Feud: Capote vs The Swans has seen a renewed fascination in the life of the renowned author. Thus, the story of who Truman Capote is buried with has also seen an uptick in interest.
This might not seem like an interesting topic to some, especially considering his relationship with the Swans, as depicted in the FX series.
Those who think this are sorely mistaken as Truman Capote’s whereabouts after his death may be just as unbelievable as his life’s events.
The Turbulent Life of Renowned Writer, Truman Capote
Truman Capote is one of the most popular American authors of the 20th century. After all, he wrote the iconic Breakfast at Tiffany’s novella, as well as In Cold Blood which has become a modern literary classic.
Instead of following the creation of these two works, Feud: Capote vs The Swans is a fictionalized retelling of Capote’s clash with the Swans, a group of New York City socialites who were quite close to him.
The feud began when Esquire published an excerpt from Capote’s unfinished book Answered Prayers as it contained what seemed to be thinly veiled retellings of the Swans’ personal lives.
This drama was said to have increased Capote’s substance and alcohol abuse, eventually leading to his reclusion and subsequent passing.
His death did not signal the end though as his ashes had quite the whirlwind journey in the decades that followed.
Who is Truman Capote Buried With? The Unbelievable Story About His Ashes
Truman Capote is not technically buried with anyone. According to W Magazine, most of Capote’s remains after his death in 1984 were left to his partner, Jack Dunphy.
As for the rest, a small portion of his ashes were given to Joanne Carson, the wife of the king of late-night television Johnny Carson.
In 1988, the Carson’s home was burgled, with the ashes also being taken. A few days later though, Carson claimed that the ashes were returned.
After this event, the ashes were entombed at the Westwood Memorial Park in LA. This wasn’t the end of the journey for Capote’s ashes (or at least part of it).
In 2016, Capote’s ashes were auctioned by Julien’s Auctions, and it was sold for USD 43,750. Since then, no reports have surfaced regarding the whereabouts of Capote’s ashes.
It’s not known if the second season of Feud will include this bizarre journey, but what’s clear is that it will continue to portray Capote’s tumultuous relationship with the Swans.
