Olivia Wilde leads the critically acclaimed comedy The Invite as both director and star, further cementing her reputation as one of today's most exciting filmmakers.

A remake of Cesc Gay's 2020 Spanish film The People Upstairs, the movie follows married couple Joe (Seth Rogen) and Angela (Wilde), who invite their upstairs neighbours, Pina (Penelope Cruz) and Hawk (Edward Norton) over for dinner. What begins as a casual evening quickly turns into an awkward yet hilarious exploration of love, marriage, jealousy, and modern relationships...

If you're eager to find out why the film has become one of the year's most acclaimed comedies, here's where you can watch The Invite online after its theatrical release, along with the best streaming, rental, and purchase options and how to use a VPN if it's unavailable in your region once it makes its digital debut.

Where to Stream The Invite

The Invite premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival on January 24, where it received positive reviews from critics. It was later given a limited theatrical release in the United States on June 26 before expanding nationwide on July 10, ultimately grossing about $31.9 million worldwide (so far).

Following its theatrical run, the film is expected to make its way to a streaming platform.

Streaming Option(s):

  • HBO Max
  • Predicted release: November 2026

Although A24 has not officially announced a streaming home for The Invite, HBO Max is the most likely destination due to A24's output agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery. Several recent A24 films have already debuted on the platform, making it the strongest candidate for the comedy's streaming release.

If you'd rather own the film or watch it without a subscription, The Invite is also expected to arrive on digital storefronts shortly after its theatrical run.

Rent or Purchase Option(s)

  • Amazon Prime
  • Apple TV
  • Fandango at Home
  • Google Play Movies & TV
  • Microsoft Store
  • Predicted release: Mid-August to early September 2026

While A24 has yet to confirm the film's digital pricing, The Invite is expected to follow the studio's standard Premium Video on Demand (PVOD) model, with an estimated purchase price of $24.99 and a rental price of $19.99 when it first becomes available on digital platforms.

As a fan of Olivia Wilde's previous directorial efforts, Edward Norton said accepting a role in her latest film, The Invite, was an easy decision.

Norton plays retired firefighter Hawk, a character Wilde said the actor enriched by bringing a "heartbreaking and sophisticated backstory" while demonstrating "a tremendous amount of intelligence and confidence" in his performance.

For Norton, however, one of the film's biggest draws was the opportunity to work alongside Seth Rogen, who plays Joe. He told News24:

  • "I was really excited about the idea of doing something with Seth where we weren't just joking around–though I knew it would be really, really funny–with an undercurrent of vulnerability, and even pain or struggle in it."
  • "That was really appealing to me, and I love Olivia's films. I thought they were just sharp, incisive, beautifully crafted."

With Norton praising both Wilde's direction and the film's storyline, The Invite promises to deliver more than just laughs.
