Here's some good news for avid sci-fi and mecha fans: an anime of this genre is coming this Fall 2021! Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Sakugan, a wonderful story about father and daughter and their journey in a futuristic underground world. From what we know so far, the series gives off a bit of Gurren Lagann vibes.
Sakugan is an anime adapted from a novel titled Sakugan Labyrinth Marker by Nekotarō Inui. It won the title of runner-up in Project Amina 2018's Science-Fiction/Robot category. Satelight is the studio behind the anime adaptation, while Junichi Wada is handling the direction and series composition.
The story of Sakugan revolves around a father named Gagumber and his young nine-year-old daughter named Memenpu. In this setting, humans live in an underground world called the Labyrinth. The Labyrinth has colonies, and Gagumber and Memenpu are located in a colony called Pinyin. The two of them work as miners, using a two-person robot to dig for ore. Memenpu tells her father they should travel together in search of her mother. She tells them that they should work as Markers, a dangerous job involving exploring the Labyrinth. And so, they continue their father and daughter journey in the underground.
