Elf has become an iconic holiday classic for many years due to Will Ferrell's hilarious performance, heartfelt and relatable story, the fish-out-of-water trope, and its broad appeal across different generations of audiences.
It follows Buddy, a human who was raised as an oversized elf, who travels from the North Pole to New York City to meet his biological father, Walter Hobbs, who doesn't know he exists and is in desperate need of some Christmas spirit.
You might be in the mood to watch it this holiday season. If so, then here's where to stream the movie, plus some VPN recommendations, including ExpressVPN and VeePN, if it's not available in your region.
Where to Watch Elf Online
Elf is available to stream, allowing you to rewatch the holiday comedy classic anytime at your convenience, though we'd recommend it around the holidays. Here's where:
- Where Elf is streaming in the US: HBO Max
- Where Elf is streaming in the UK: Sky Go, Now TV Cinema
What if the movie is not available in your region? Well, there is a solution, which involves subscribing to a VPN.
Best VPNs to Use to Watch Elf
A VPN allows you to bypass geo-restrictions by making it appear as though you’re accessing the internet from another country. This makes it easy to stream movies and shows that aren’t available in your region — in this case, Elf.
In our opinion, ExpressVPN and VeePN are two of the very best VPNs for streaming.
Lots of Servers

Budget-friendly

ExpressVPN stands out with its network of over 3,000 servers in 105 countries, delivering consistently fast and reliable connections ideal for high-quality streaming. VeePN, meanwhile, provides more than 2,600 servers and serves as a budget-friendly alternative at just $1.99 per month.
Both services have their advantages — ExpressVPN excels in performance and global coverage, while VeePN offers strong value for the price. If you’re looking to stream content like Elf or access other region-locked titles, either option can be a great choice.
Other VPN Options to Consider
If ExpressVPN or VeePN aren't for you, here are some other top VPN services to consider:
- NordVPN: Offers strong security and provides excellent server speeds
- Surfshark: Unlimited device connections at an affordable value
- CyberGhost: Known for its fast speed and reliable server networks across countries
- Private Internet Access: Known for strong privacy features and an affordable, feature-rich VPN service
Beyond unlocking exclusive streaming content, a VPN delivers meaningful privacy and security benefits. Masking your IP address helps shield your online activity from ISPs, advertisers, and other digital trackers. It also encrypts your connection, protecting your data and lowering your exposure to cyber threats.
With advantages like these, keeping your VPN enabled at all times — not just when you’re settling in to watch Elf — is the smarter, safer choice.
Is There an Elf Sequel or Reboot in the Works?

There have been attempts to do a sequel to Elf, but none of them came to fruition since Ferrell has no interest in starring in another movie.
Back in 2023, director Jon Favreau stated that he was never interested in making a sequel, and he didn't feel the need for a second movie despite the success. "That particular film, I don't know what story would be told after that. It's very complete," he said.
However, considering the current trend in Hollywood, it won't be surprising if the studio might try to attempt to do a reboot or legacy sequel again and turn this into an active holiday movie franchise. This is all just speculation, though, because it unfortunately seems that, for now, we're stuck with the one Elf movie to stream.
