The Boys Season 4 has been announced! Unfortunately, we still don't know when the fourth season will be released on Amazon Prime Video. The announcement was made by the show's official Twitter account. But considering the satire superhero series is one of Amazon Prime's hit shows, the announcement doesn't really come as a shock.
So what else do we know about the upcoming fourth season? Read on for more updates.
When Will The Boys Season 4 be Released?
The Boys Season 3 only hit TV screens last Thursday. And to add to this, the show only formally revealed that they will be renewed for a fourth season last month. This means that The Boys Season 4 will not yet be released anytime soon.
In an interview with Collider, Karl Urban (as Billy Butcher) shared that they expect The Boys Season 4 filming to start later this year. "Yeah, we're starting I think August the 22nd, we're going to be starting season four. So I'm getting back, getting my Butcher back on, and I can't wait."
And looking at its track record, there has been a wait period until a new season is released. If this pattern will be followed, the next season could be aired between summer 2023 and spring 2024.
The Boys has started filming the fourth season. This was confirmed by Antony Starr (who plays The Homelander in the series) on his Twitter account. "Season one. So long ago. Season four, now we begin :)," the tweet said with an accompanying photo of the cast when they were still filming the first season.
What Will The Boys Season 4 Story Be About
The Boys Season 4 will likely pick up the pieces where Season 3 ended. One of the things it will have to expand on is Butcher, who has been given only 12-18 months to live after taking too much Temp-V.
Another storyline that the fourth season of The Boys should pick up on is the scene where The Homelander (Antony Starr) lasered off the head of a protestor. The writers should explore on the possible repercussions of this decision.
The showrunners also have some explaining to do with why Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) chose to go with The Homelander instead of Butcher. Season 4 could explore this storyline further and go into detail what the fate of Ryan will be.
Eric Kripke, the show's creator, talked to E! News on what Season 4's plot could be: "A lot of the season will be a battle over Ryan. Because if The Homelander ends up raising and influencing the kids that's basically a second The Homelander with apocalyptic stakes."
Who Will be in The Boys Season 4?
We'll likely see the major characters reprise their roles for The Boys Season 4. These include:
- Jack Quaid (as Hughie Campbell Jr)
- Laz Alonso (as Mother's Milk/MM)
- Tomer Capone (as Serge Frenchie)
- Karen Fukuhara (as Kimiko Miyashiro)
- Erin Moriarty (as Starlight/Annie January)
- Antony Starr (as The Homelander)
- Chace Crawford (as The Deep)
- Jessie T Usher (as A-Train)
- Cameron Crovetti (as Ryan)
- Giancarlo Esposito (as Stan Edgar)
- Colby Minifie (as Ashley Barrett)
- Claudia Doumit (as Victoria Neuman)
Kripke also somewhat confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Soldier Boy (played by Jensen Ackles) will return in the next season. "The old TV adage is like, never kill anyone unless you really, really have to. Never close a door, open a window. We'll all have to wait and see, but I can't imagine the series ending without Soldier Boy making another appearance."
In August 25th, we learned that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be joining the cast. There is no official announcement yet on who he will be playing in the series.
Will There be The Boys Spinoff Show?
A spinoff show for The Boys has already been confirmed. The Boys cinematic universe will be expanded to a new show entitled The Boys Presents: Varsity.
This new series will occur at Vought International's Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, the only superhero school in America. The show will follow a new group of young superheroes as they try to get a contract for their powers.
Some of the actors that have already been cast include Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, Jaz Sinclair, Marco Pigossi, and many others.
