When Does Demon Slayer Season 4 Take Place? Timeline Explained
It’s fair to say that Demon Slayer is one of the most popular anime right now thanks to its eye-popping animation and incredible action.
In its home country, the series has also gotten a lot of love for being a quintessentially Japanese show. After all, the series is set in Japan in the early 20th century.
To be exact, the series is set in a fictionalized version of the Taisho era. This era in Japan was between July 1912 to December 1926.
As with most of Japan’s modern eras, this one is named after the reigning Emperor Taisho. This was also a major era in Japan as it happened after the Meiji Restoration, the era when Japan finally began opening up.
This explains why Demon Slayer has modern technologies such as electricity. The show being set in the Taisho era also explains why a considerable number of characters wear Western-style clothing.
Even though its setting already features some modern technologies, fans were wondering about its time period given Tanjiro Kamado's paper airplane challenge in season 4.
Fans Wonder if Airplanes Are Already a Thing in Demon Slayer
In season 4 episode 4, Tanjiro challenged Muichiro Tokito to have a paper airplane competition. This led some to ask on Reddit if airplanes were already a thing during Demon Slayer’s time.
The Wright Brothers flew the first airplane in 1903 – nearly a decade before the Taisho era began.
This coupled with the fact that World War II (which began in 1914) already had airplanes in combat should mean airplanes were already invented in Demon Slayer’s fictionalized timeline.
Even if for some reason the series’ world does not have airplanes yet, paper airplanes were already something people made decades before, though they were known as paper darts instead.
As such, it should follow that paper airplanes were already a common thing in the anime’s world. They may have just named it airplanes to make it easily understandable for viewers in this case.
