In a recent interview with EW, director Jon Favreau opened up about the plans for what's next for Din Djarin and Grogu in the Star Wars franchise after the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
While he didn't share any specific plans, he noted that he has ideas and storylines in mind for the next step for the titular characters.
"I think about it creatively, and so for me it's like a garden or a greenhouse with all the different storylines and characters," he said.
"I see opportunity in all of them, because these storylines have taken on a life of their own, and I love the progression of these characters, and I like to think forward as to what's the next step for both of them."
Favreau described that Din Djarin and Grogu's future as a "wide open canvas," but Dave Filoni is also "thinking deeply and about the larger story, about how all the characters [like Ahsoka and Thrawn] all fit together, and understanding the timeframe and how it leads into the next era of Star Wars."
The filmmaker continued, "So I think that there's a lot of higher-order strategic decisions that Dave is making that this will fit into, but from my perspective, I have a lot of notes and ideas as to where I think things might go within this small microcosm within Star Wars."
The future of Din Djarin and Grogu in the Star Wars franchise might also depend on the performance of The Mandalorian and Grogu by the end of its theatrical run. If it becomes a success, fans could likely expect a sequel.
What is The Mandalorian and Grogu About?

The cast includes Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, Jonny Coyne, Martin Scorsese, Steve Blum, Dave Filoni, and Matthew Willig.
