James Gunn has officially announced the follow-up movie to Superman, scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2027.

Following the film’s box office last summer, fans have been looking forward to hearing what’s next for the Man of Steel in the DCU and whether Gunn is already working on a sequel. Now, we finally have our first details on his next DCU adventure.

Yesterday, Gunn confirmed on social media that DC Studios is moving forward with the next Superman movie titled Man of Tomorrow. It is set for release on July 9, 2027.

David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are confirmed to reprise their respective roles of Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. Gunn also posted a Jim Lee artwork featuring the two characters in his announcement.

Just like the first movie, Gunn is also serving as the director and writer of the project.

For weeks, the DC Studios co-chairman has been teasing that he is already working on a follow-up movie to Superman, but he does not consider it a “straight sequel.”

“This is the same movie. Superman has a major role. It’s not Superman 2,” he clarified in a post on Threads.

While the film is not considered a straightforward sequel, this is the first time that Superman has had a second solo/non-crossover movie since the Christopher Reeve era.

What Are the Upcoming Projects in the DCU?

On the theatrical side, following the successful release of Superman, up next on their slate is Supergirl. It is currently set to release in theaters on June 26, 2026, and wrapped production months ago.

The Clayface movie is currently in production and is set to release in theaters on September 11, 2026. While it is set in the DCU, it is still considered to be a standalone body-horror movie.

Meanwhile, on the television side, Peacemaker season 2 is currently airing new episodes weekly on HBO Max. The Lanterns series recently wrapped production and is set to premiere on HBO early next year.
