The season 2 finale of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place ended with a major cliffhanger as it appeared to have killed off Alex Russo. But is she really dead, or is it simply an ambiguous fate?
Selena Gomez made her return as the beloved character in the last two episodes of the Disney Channel show's recently aired second season. Not only does the finale reveal the shocking twist that Billie is Alex's daughter, but Alex made the ultimate sacrifice in their fight against Morsus by throwing both of them into the portal to the dark magic dimension.
Did Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Really Kill Off Alex Russo in the Season 2 Finale?

A lot of fans have been wondering whether Alex Russo was gone for good, as implied in the cliffhanger ending of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season, or if we will see more of her again.
Since the episode was released, there have been a lot of sentiments from fans regarding what transpired in the season 2 finale, and they are hoping that her supposed death was misleading.
Despite the uncertainty about her fate, it is more likely that Alex is still alive, and she is just stuck in the dark magic dimension that the portal led to. After all, we never saw her deceased body at the end of the episode.
David Henrie, who plays Justin Russo, also teased in his post on X that there's a "lot more to come" for Alex and reminded fans that she is a tough character who would likely overcome the dilemma.
"Just so you know, Alex Russo is tougher than you think - and there’s a lot more to come. You’re asking all the right questions. Stay tuned, #WizardsBeyond has got some magical surprises up our sleeves," he wrote.
For now, fans may have to wait until the third season before they learn Alex's fate following the cliffhanger ending of the second season.
Is Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Already Renewed for Season 3?
As of this writing, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has not been renewed for a third season, as no decision has been made yet by Disney Channel regarding its future.
However, considering that the series has been a hit and has a dedicated fanbase that is strongly supportive, it wouldn't be surprising if it gets renewed sooner rather than later.
While the entire second season has already been released on Disney+, its linear run on Disney Channel is not yet finished, and the season finale won't be airing on the network until October 17. An announcement might get made after finishing its linear run.
