Wendy Williams, the former host of The Wendy Williams Show, has been hospitalized as investigations into her guardianship and alleged “elder abuse” unfold.

According to The US Sun, Adult Protective Services (APS) opened a cast last week after the media personality’s guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, let her visit her father, Thomas Williams Sr., in Florida with an empty credit card.

The incident, which occurred on March 10, 2025, has reignited concerns about the 60-year-old media personality's well-being and the conditions surrounding her court-ordered guardianship.

Guardianship in Question

Williams’ guardianship is now being investigated as “elder abuse” after a source claimed that the iconic daytime TV host’s “civil rights and liberty are being denied."

“The guardian gave her a credit card with no funds when she went to Miami,” the insider added.

The tipster furthered that the credit card Morrissey gave to her was “declined” and “someone else had to pay for her purchases,” while the guardian enjoyed her money.

“Meanwhile, the guardian is spending all her money hiring lawyers to defend herself and squandering Wendy's money on legal fees,” the informant continued.

For starters, Morrissey is in a legal battle with Lifetime over its Where is Wendy Williams? documentary, with her own attorney representing her in that case.

However, it is unknown if there are any other legal battles she’s facing that would require her to hire counsel for her guardianship over Williams.

A Cry for Help

The report about Williams’ elder abuse comes after she dropped notes from her window, which read “Help! Wendy!!,” asking for help while staying in her assisted living facility in Midtown Manhattan, on Monday, March 10.

The notes were said to be aimed at the paparazzi gathering outside. An ambulance then took the 60-year-old star to a nearby hospital.

Williams underwent a wellness check, during which a psychiatrist at Lenox Hill Hospital examined her and reportedly confirmed that her “mental capacity is fully intact” after she passed the evaluation.

This incident follows years of controversy surrounding the former radio DJ and host’s guardianship, which started in 2022 after allegations of financial abuse surfaced.

Her care team previously diagnosed her with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, conditions that reportedly impair her cognitive abilities.

‘Trapped’ in a Facility

In a bombshell interview on The Breakfast Club in January, Williams claimed she felt “trapped” in the facility with elderly patients.

In fact, she was not even allowed to use her phone or laptop while under her guardianship, calling her situation “emotional abuse.”

She also denied Morrissey’s claim that she is “permanently incapacitated.”

“I am not cognitively impaired, but I feel like I am in prison,” she said. “I am definitely isolated. To talk to these people who live here, that is not my cup of tea.”

Describing her situation as a “luxury prison,” Williams would usually keep her “door closed” in the facility, “watch TV, listen to the radio, watch the window,” and just “sit here.”

Gina Monterroso, a caregiver unaffiliated with the guardianship, recently sent a letter to APS requesting an investigation into what she described as “troubling circumstances” surrounding Williams’ confinement.

Monterroso argued that Williams’ legal rights and personal autonomy were being violated and questioned the integrity of Morrissey’s claims about her mental state.

As Williams continues to fight for autonomy over her life, she is raising awareness about elder abuse and the complexities of conservatorships.
