Michelle Obama’s brother, Craig Robinson, got candid on a podcast about what he first thought of her relationship with Barack Obama.

The former president and first lady have been married for 32 years, but Robinson admitted he never imagined they would last this long.

Craig Robinson Reveals He Thought Barack Obama Wouldn’t Take His Relationship with Michelle Seriously

Michelle Obama’s older brother, Craig Robinson, admitted that the first time he met Barack Obama, he never thought he’d be the one his sister would marry.

The siblings shared playful banter during the April 16 episode of their IMO podcast with guest Tracee Ellis Ross, as Robinson recalled his first impressions of the 44th American president.

“So Mich starts to date Barack, and we don’t know who this guy is. We’re just like, ‘Barack? Who’s got a name like Barack?’” Robinson said.

“And I’m thinking to myself, it’s gonna last like about a month, like most of your relationships did,” he added.

“That’s not true. I had many a long-term boyfriend,” Michelle replied. Still, according to her brother, he considered most of the former first lady’s past relationships as merely flings.

Robinson went on to recount the day the family first met Barack. “I remember Mom’s first thing was, ‘Ooo, at least he’s tall.’ Because Mich was usually posting up her other boyfriends,” he said.

He added that at the time, he just thought, “Too bad,” since he believed Michelle and Barack’s relationship wouldn’t last.

Craig Robinson Recalls How He Thought Barack Obama Would Be a Good Fit for Michelle

Before Michelle and Barack married on October 3, 1992, Craig Robinson shared how he came to realize that the former POTUS was the right one for his sister.

He said Michelle approached him one day because she wanted to test how decent her then-boyfriend really was. She knew her older brother could sense someone’s true character based on their “court behavior.”

Robinson pointed out that he couldn’t take full credit for this skill and recalled what their dad used to say: “You can really tell a person’s character by how they play pickup basketball.”

“Obviously, we had a great time playing. This is what I learned—aside from the fact that he’s tremendously left-handed, so he couldn’t go right at all—most importantly, he was a team player,” Barack’s brother-in-law said.

Robinson continued on the podcast, “He fit in with the people. So I was able to report back to you, everything was fine, and the rest was history.”

Michelle and Barack’s companionship led them to have two daughters, Malia and Sasha. Although they’re still together, their marriage hasn’t been free from scandals. In fact, rumors of a divorce and claims that Barack was dating Jennifer Aniston have even plagued their relationship.

Addressing the speculations, Michelle spoke on Sophia Bush’s Work in Progress podcast on April 8, saying that part of women’s struggles involves “disappointing people.”

“I mean, so much so that this year people were — they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself. They had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing,” she said, referring to her decision not to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration with Barack in January, along with other times she wasn’t seen in public with her husband.
