The Netflix series, which is based on the Robyn Carr books, has one of the largest followings on the service. Now, Patrick Sean Smith will serve as the new showrunner for Virgin River Season 5.
This season is also anticipated to be powerful and heavy in a way that previous seasons have not.
Virgin River Season 5 Will Be 'Intense'
Virgin River hasn't shied away from topics like miscarriage, sexual assault, death, PTSD, violence, and other similar topics, but it has largely stayed fluffy and lighthearted.
Virgin River Season 5, however, is expected to be intense and heavy.

"I think this season has started out well and we're getting into a few episodes soon that are pretty heavy," Breckenridge told New Beauty. "They're really intense and I think that they're some of the best episodes we've ever done. I think that there's a high sense of drama that starts to come up this season that it's going to leave people on the edge of their seats. At least, I hope. I'm excited to get into that."
Virgin River Season 5 Will Tackle Jack's Struggles
Though Jack appears to be working on his PTSD and his relationship with Mel appears to be on solid ground, he will still encounter numerous challenges.
Not only has Charmaine disclosed that he is not the father of her twins, but he has also unintentionally been involved with Melissa (played by Barbara Pollard) through the business he is establishing with Nick (Keith MacKechnie).
Mandy, Jack's ex-wife, may potentially return to haunt him. As we all know, Jack isn't a talker, but he did casually mention his ex-wife. Fans now anticipate she will return in Virgin River Season 5.
"There are a lot of great Easter eggs and breadcrumbs that have been left, and we are clocking all of them thoughtfully," new showrunner Smith told Glamour. "I would say, check out season five and see if Mandy makes an appearance."
Since production is scheduled to end in November 2022, we could see Virgin River Season 5 on Netflix as soon as summer 2023.
