Venom Gets An Underwhelming Rotten Score On Rotten Tomatoes

Earlier this week, Venom made its global premiere in Los, Angeles. A day after that, Sony lifted the embargo on reactions to the Symbiote standalone movie, revealing mixed reviews from fans and from members of the press.

Now, it looks like Venom's official Rotten Tomatoes score is out online, and things definitely don't look too good for Tom Hardy's comic book movie. While early reviews for Venom have been rather interesting, the aggregated score of the critic reviews for Sony's first installment in its Universe of Marvel Characters has the film at the rotten zone with a meager 33 % score from a collection of 48 critic reviews:

The critic consensus for the film reads: "Venom's first standalone movie turns out to be like the comics character in all the wrong ways - chaotic, noisy, and in desperate need of a stronger attachment to Spider-Man."

While there are some critics who've given the movie a fresh rating, most of the reviews tank Venom complaining the film for being "nowhere near as edgy or exciting as it should have been," "boring" and for being a "tone-deaf Marvel botch job."

While the 32% score isn't the lowest that a comic book movie has ever received, Venom's poor Rotten Tomatoes score may reflect during its official opening this Friday. Seeing poor reviews before the premiere of a movie is never a good sign.

This is definitely bad news for Sony. The studio's been banking a lot on Venom, the very first film in its wave of Spider-Man comic book movies without the presence of everyone's favorite webslinger.

Venom makes its big premiere October 5, 2018.
