Fans have been wanting Norman Reedus for the MCU’s Ghost Rider for years, but even then, nothing has been confirmed on the MCU side of things.
What’s interesting is, the latest trailer for Venom: The Last Dance has officially dropped, and word has it that Reedus is actually playing a ‘Thanos-level threat’ for Sony’s Spider-Man spinoffs.
Norman Reedus Reportedly in Venom 3
The latest trailer for Venom 3 teased the symbiote hive planet, and in it is Knull, a character created in the 2010s who is said to be the creator of the symbiotes. Rumor has it that Reedus is actually playing Knull in the movie, and that’s him that’s teased with the long, wet hair in the latest trailer.
With the trailer already confirming more symbiotes that will be arriving on Earth, some speculate that Knull is actually just a small role in the movie, and the clip in the trailers could actually be Venom: The Last Dance’s post-credit scene.
As for Reedus, he’s said to be a solid pick for the role, but seeing as how Sony has ‘wasted’ so many great Spider-Man characters, the pressure is on for the studio to not fumble the treatment of Knull the God of Symbiotes.
Knull: A Thanos-Level Threat?
With the reveal of Knull, several people have already been coming out online saying that he’s a ‘Thanos-level’ villain, and how could he not be?
In the comics, Knull had existed before the creation of the universe, and when the Celestials decided that they were going to do that, Knull up and killed a celestial with his own unique symbiote sword a.k.a. the Necrosword a.k.a. The Godslayer. He’s that powerful.
Also, it’s worth noting that the Necrosword, has already appeared in the MCU films. It’s the same weapon that Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher wields in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Knull is said to have been the origin of all symbiotes, and it was his forging of the first symbiote that resulted in all the other symbiotes being afraid of fire and loud noises. It’s also worth noting that the planet of the symbiotes, Klyntar, actually means “cage”, and it’s where multiple symbiotes banded together so they could keep Knull from causing any more chaos among the rest of the species that he had created.
Sony’s Avengers?
With the tease of Knull in Venom, some are suspecting that Sony is planning some kind of huge crossover with the characters that got solo movies, and Knull would be their main villain. So far, the list of Sony Spider-Verse spinoff characters includes Venom, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter.
Out of all the characters listed, Venom is the only one with a successful film franchise; but it’s very likely that Sony made Jared Leto and Dakota Johnson sign contracts that will obligate them to come back and reprise their roles should they make some kind of crossover movie.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo is forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie's last dance.
Venom: The Last Dance is set to hit theatres on Oct. 25.
