The closed beta featured ranked play, but was removed for launch to give players a level playing field. The developer felt that it would be unfair to have newcomers playing alongside players from the beta when they were still learning the game, so they held back the ranked mode, but now they are bringing back ranked play.

The beta's ranked system received criticisms for the highest tier of competitive play. The highest rank in the beta was called Valorant, which many players thought didn't fit with the rest of the ranks, but Riot said they are considering to rename the top rank when the game brings back ranked play. The ranked system was also criticized for not having leaderboards for the top players to give them something to work towards. The developer said that they are looking into this, but they haven't announced if it will be available when ranked play re-launches next week.
