Hollywood stars and fans are paying tribute to the late actor Val Kilmer following the news of his passing at the age of 65.
Kilmer's daughter, Mercedes, confirmed to the media that the Top Gun and Batman Forever star has passed away due to pneumonia. He has been battling throat cancer during the last years of his life.
Hollywood Stars Pay Tribute to Val Kilmer
Since reports came that Kilmer has passed away, several Hollywood stars took to social media to pay tribute to the late actor and celebrate his life and legacy.
In his Instagram post, Josh Brolin called Kilmer "a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker." He also shared a photo of himself and the late actor hiking on a mountain trail.
Michael Mann, who directed Kilmer in his 1995 masterpiece Heat, remembered the late actor's "brilliant" work and how he "marvelled" at his talent when they working in the film.
He said in the statement, "While working with Val on Heat, I always marvelled at the range, the brilliant variability within the powerful current of Val’s possessing and expressing character. After so many years of Val battling disease and maintaining his spirit, this is tremendously sad news."
In her post on X, Jennifer Tilly recalled her audition experience with Kilmer on The Doors and how he made a strong impression the moment he showed up in the room.
She wrote, "We all looked at each other like… Who is this guy? We were more than a little shook by the sheer audacity of his entrance. Well of course it was Val Kilmer and from that minute on, nobody else stood a chance. Rip King."
Matthew Modine paid tribute to Kilmer on his X post by sharing his story on how his chance encounter with the late actor led him to an opportunity to get cast in Full Metal Jacket.
He wrote, "RIP Val Kilmer. If it wasn't for our chance encounter at the Source in 1985, I may never have been cast in FULL METAL JACKET. Thanks, Val."
In his Instagram post, Josh Gad thanked the late actor for defining the movies of his childhood.
"RIP Val Kilmer. Thank you for defining so many of the movies of my childhood. You truly were an icon," he wrote.
