Uzumaki Anime Likely to Release on Adult Swim This Year
In a recent interview with The Japan Times, it was revealed that the highly anticipated anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s mega-hit horror manga Uzumaki is very likely to debut on Adult Swim sometime this year.
This news is a relief for fans who have been eagerly awaiting the anime’s release after several delays over the years.
Originally set to premiere on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block in 2020, the anime was delayed to 2021, then again to October 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was further pushed back in June 2022 without a confirmed release date.
Finally, it appears the anime will have its long-awaited TV premiere this year, as the manga’s original creator, Junji Ito, revealed that the first of four episodes is already complete.

Previous anime adaptations of Ito’s works, such as Studio DEEN’s Junji Ito Collection, received mixed reviews from fans and critics alike.
The 12-episode series was criticized for its low animation quality, awkward camera angles, and inconsistent storytelling, which fans felt failed to capture the original manga’s eerie and horrifying elements.
Fortunately, Ito seems satisfied with the upcoming Uzumaki anime, which is being worked on by studio Drive (known for KonoSuba season 3 and To Your Eternity season 2) and produced by Production I.G (famous for Haikyuu and Psycho-Pass), two of the most renowned companies in the anime industry.
Whether the Uzumaki anime delivers the same level of horror as the manga remains to be seen, but fans remain hopeful that the wait won’t be too long now given the recent updates.
