We’re getting new villains in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts like Scourge. But who is the villain Scourge in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts?
In Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the Autobots and the Maximals battle against the Terrorcons and try to prevent them from obtaining the Transwarp Key that would allow the villain Unicron to invade Earth.
Scourge is the leader of the Terrorcons and Unicron’s henchman. But what else is there to know about Scourge?
And what’s Scourge’s role in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts? Here’s what we know about the villain Scourge.
The Villain Scourge in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Explained
Scourge is the leader of the Terrorcons. He is a trophy hunter who transforms into a black Peterbilt logging semi-truck.
Scourge has an electric claw, a double-sided blade, and an Ion cannon. Scourge also has a collection of six-legged Terrorcon Freezers that can sniff out his prey.
As explained in the movie, Terrorcons, like Scourge, are servants of a dark god (Unicron) and are all imbued with dark energy. When one is touched by Scourge, he leaves a mark.
Unicron also possesses the soul of Scourge. It is Scourge’s goal to conquer worlds under Unicron’s command.
The villain Scourge himself is powerful and cruel. He also considers himself a “higher power” and Optimus Prime an “inferior being.”
Scourge is voiced by Peter Dinklage, who is known for playing Tyrion Lannister on HBO's Game of Thrones. Talking about his character Scourge, Dinklage said in an interview with Screen Rant:
"He’s the boss, but he also has a boss in Unicron. He has to answer to that guy who eats planets, so he’s a bit of a threat. And I think it’s just because he’s treated so poorly by that guy, he just transfers that down to his minions. They're like locusts, right? They just want to consume, destroy, and they don’t have any moral compass, so why not?"
Additionally, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura shared that Scourge likes to collect Autobots and Maximals and display them as trophies:
"One of the cool features that Steven came up with is that Scourge basically takes the insignias off of the robots that he's killed and fuses them onto him, so he's like a living memorial to the havoc he's created.”

Scourge’s Role in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Explained
In Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Scourge works to obtain the Transwarp Key so that his master Unicron can invade Earth. Scourge is also responsible for the deaths of Bumblebee and Airazor, and the near-death of Mirage.
When the Autobots first encounter the Terrorcons, Scourge almost defeats Optimus Prime, but then Bumblebee jumps in. Scourge stabs Bumblebee and claims that he’s tired of little things getting in his way. He then takes Bumblebee's Autobot emblem.
And just when he was about to finish off Optimus Prime, the Maximal Airazor arrives and saves the Autobots. But in another fight against the Terrorcons, Scourge fires at Airazor and corrupts her.
This causes Airazor to become evil and go berserk. Optimus Primal then unwillingly kills Airazor due to the “mark” Scourge left in her.
And lastly, Scourge is responsible for almost killing Mirage. During the final battle of the movie, Scourge goes after Noah, but the latter is protected by Mirage.
When Scourge is about to fire at Noah, Mirage takes the hits instead. Thankfully, Mirage doesn’t die. He ends up gravely wounded but not dead.
So, while Scourge is not really the main threat in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, he does much of the dirty work. He gets more screen time than his boss, the villain Unicron.
