Discovery has become a pioneer in helping Paramount+ build a new vision for Star Trek on modern television.
With its modern storytelling, good CGI, and coordinated dialogues that show the typical political and social issues, the show is considered one of the best in the franchise.
Now that it has ended relive the five best moments in Discovery.
Booker and Culber’s Friendship (Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Episode 6, Whistlespeak)
Cleveland Booker and Hugh Culber’s friendship is one of the highlights of Discovery Season 5 Episode 6, titled Whistlespeak.
The episode shows the importance of family and friendship after the crew decides to strand themselves in the future during the season two finale.
In Whistlespeak, Booker helps Culber come to terms with his spiritual awakening, and their scene discussing spirituality and relationships while eating is touching.
Though it looks like a grounded character interaction in a show full of high-stakes action and adventure, it’s beautifully understated.
Actors David Ajala and Wilson Cruz perfectly executed their scene, emphasising the strong friendship brewing between their characters.
Saru and Tilly Braving the Future Together (Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Episode 2, Far From Home)
In Discovery Season 3 Episode 2, Far From Home, the USS Discovery crash lands on a strange planet, and the crew races against time to repair their ship.
However, Saru and Tilly go on a mission to find Burnham.
The two brave the future together after ending up on the wrong planet, where they must spend the rest of their lives.
Sure, the moment is incredibly tense, but it’s also awe-inspiring.
Fans can feel both the trepidation and fear the characters have as they’re about to meet a civilisation far removed from their own time.
But as scientists and explorers, they know they must learn of this new world—in true Star Trek style.
What makes it more like traditional Star Trek is the humanity. Tilly is visibly afraid and scared, while Saru stands up as the true leader that he is.
He does his best to understand Tilly and comfort her. Though it’s just a little scene for some, it shows an incredible push and pull between the two characters, making it one of the best moments in the series.
The Spectre of Hope (Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Episode 1, That Hope is You, Part 1)
Discovery Season 3 features a new era with Michael Burnham arriving in 3188 in Episode 1, That Hope is You, Part 1.
After time-travelling, she finds herself alone, without knowing if the USS Discovery will ever find her.
She then meets Cleveland Booker, who is destined to be the love of her life.
The pair escape the hostile planet together, but Michael is exposed to a hallucinogen that makes her giddily.
They then meet Adiya Sahil, who sees Michael as the “hope” he has been waiting for.
With Martin-Green’s incredible acting, she has redefined the course and future of Discovery.
The Arrival of the Enterprise (Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 Episode 15, Will You Take My Hand?)
There’s no scene more exciting than the arrival of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 in Discovery Season 1 Episode 15, Will You Take My Hand?
This happens at the end of the first season’s final episode when the Discovery crew leaves Earth and makes their way to Vulcan to pick up the ship’s new captain after receiving a transmission from the Enterprise.
Fans were excited after seeing the Discovery and the Enterprise get nose to nose.
The original Star Trek theme plays in the background to complete the nostalgia as the credits roll.
If this scene doesn’t excite fans enough, nothing will.
Michael and Mr. Spock’s Complicated Relationship (Star Trek: Discovery Season 2)
Aside from flashy space battles and shadowy secrets, Discovery Season 2 also features the complicated relationship between Michael and her estranged step-brother, Mr. Spock.
Their parents, Sarek and Amanda, watch their kids try their best to reestablish their bond, which becomes one of the fleeting moments in the series.
Actors Sonequa Martin-Green and Ethan Peck have shown subtle affection between their characters. As the show reveals, these two share a very deep literary nerdery.
