Marvel Studios and Sony gave the internet a collective scare when it was announced that Spider-Man would be out of the MCU, but things seemed to have smoothed over, and it was said that Tom Holland himself played a huge part.
Talking to Jimmy Kimmel, Holland goes into detail about his contribution to saving Spider-Man and reveals that he was actually drunk the first time he spoke to Disney CEO Bob Iger.
The conversation starts at 9:42:
Apparently Holland himself was in distress when the news broke out that Spider-Man would be leaving the MCU. To add insult to injury, Holland even said that it was hard for him to hang out with his Marvel friends come the time of D23 because that was also around the same time that news came out of the Sony/Disney divorce.
This led to Holland e-mailing Iger about striking a deal with Sony, and though we know this part of the story, Holland adds the detail that he was actually out drinking by the time he got the call from Disney's head honcho.
For now, it looks like Disney and Sony have made a new deal to keep Spider-Man with his Marvel family. We're getting a third Spider-Man film with Holland, and he has at least two more appearances in upcoming MCU films. Let's just hope this partnership goes on, because, at this point, Spider-Man is kind of the biggest deal with Marvel, now that Captain America and Iron Man are gone.
Spider-Man 3 is set to hit theaters on July 16, 2021.
