Tom Cruise has achieved another career milestone as he is set to be honored with a long-overdue Honorary Oscar award.
The Hollywood A-lister remains one of the biggest movie stars in the world since his breakthrough in the 1980s. He has also been a champion of the theatrical experience and a master of stunt work, as he has a reputation for doing them practically himself.
Why is Tom Cruise Being Awarded the Honorary Oscar?
The Academy officially announced that Cruise is one of the recipients of the Honorary Oscar at this year's Governors Awards.
He will be awarded alongside legendary choreographer and performer Debbie Allen, production designer Wynn Thomas, and music icon Dolly Parton, who will be the recipient of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
According to the announcement, Cruise was chosen to be honored due to being a "committed advocate of the theatrical experience, and he helped to usher the industry through a challenging time during the COVID-19 pandemic."
He was also commended for "showcasing a deep commitment to his craft, including performing all of his own stunts."
The Honorary Oscar is given "to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences in any discipline, or for outstanding service to the Academy."

The Honorary Oscar will mark the first time that Cruise will be taking home an Oscar statue after decades of iconic works in Hollywood.
He was previously nominated for his performances in Born on the Fourth of July, Magnolia, and Jerry Maguire.
He also received a nomination for producing the blockbuster sequel Top Gun: Maverick, which nabbed a Best Picture nomination.
The Oscars' 2025 Governors Awards will take place this November 16. While the ceremony won't be telecast live, fans can watch the clips online after including the acceptance speech that Cruise will give.
