Tokyo Revengers is coming big this year as not only it has released a new anime series but also a live-action film as the story of a murder mystery with time travel secures with Warner Bros. Pictures a movie for the do-over of the life of Takemichi Hanagaki. The first trailer of the film was dropped including the theme song of the film "I'll Call Your Name" (Namae o Yobu yo) by the rock band SUPER Beaver.
Originally slated for release on October 9 last year, the film was affected and delayed by the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic. It will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures in Japan this coming July and although the North American release is not yet confirmed, a lot are hopeful for it.
Tokyo Revengers is about Takemichi whose life hit rock bottom and just when he thought it couldn't get any worse, he learns of the news of the death of his ex-girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, from the hands of the Tokyo Manji Gang, a ruthless and notorious criminal group. When he was on his way home, Takemichi gets pushed on the tracks of a train line only to realize he didn't die but instead he gets transported back to the past.
The film will be directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa, and will star Takumi Kitamura as Takemichi Hanagaki, Mio Imada as Hinata Tachibana, Gordon Maeda as character Takashi Mitsuya, Hiroya Shimizu as Shūji Hanma, Ryō Yoshizawa as Manjirō Sano, Yuki Yamada as Ken Ryūgūji, Yosuke Sugino as Naoto Tachibana, Shotaro Mamiya as Tetta Kisaki, Nobuyuki Suzuki as Masataka Shimizu, and Hayato Isomura as Atsushi Sendō.
The anime series of the same name has 24 episodes and is animated by Liden Films set to run for two anime seasons. Both the film and the anime series are based on the holder of 2020's Kodansha Manga Award under the shōnen category, Tokyo Revengers by Ken Wakui.
Tokyo Revengers premieres in Japan on July 9, 2021. The release in North America is yet to be confirmed.
