If you've seen the first teaser for Thor: Love and Thunder, you already know that Jane Foster will be wielding Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor. However, we have yet to see Jane working with the God of Thunder. Luckily, a new image featuring Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth shows the two Thors together for the first time!
In the Thor: Love and Thunder teaser, we get to see Thor's reaction when the Mighty Thor shows up with Mjolnir. However, the new photo shared by Empire magazine features the two Thors side by side and seemingly preparing for action. Check it out below.
So how did Jane Foster end up becoming the Mighty Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder? Director Taika Waititi explains that it would be boring to bring Natalie Portman back simply to do the same thing she did in the first two movies.
"You don't want Natalie coming back and playing that same character who's walking around with science equipment," Waititi told Empire. "You know, while Thor's flying around, she's left on Earth, tapping her foot going, 'When's he going to be back?' That's boring. You want her to be part of the adventure."
Waititi also pointed out that it was easy to work with Portman on the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. "Natalie's really funny in real life," he said. "She's kind of goofy and has got a great sense of humor, and I don't think that was exploited enough in the first films."
Thor: Love and Thunder will mark the first time that Waititi and Portman work together. Portman previously appeared in 2011's Thor and Thor: The Dark World but was notably absent in Thor: Ragnarok.
Thor: Love and Thunder will premiere in theaters on July 8, 2022.
