Thor Actor Chris Hemsworth Thought He is Out of the MCU Due to Civil War Absence

Back when Captain America: Civil War was released in 2016, there were people who jokingly called it "Avengers 2.5." After all, four of the original Avengers appeared in the film as well as the other heroes in the MCU. Because of this, Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, can't help but wonder if he is still part of the franchise.

Per ComicBook.com, according to the book The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Tara Bennett and Paul Terry, Hemsworth expressed his concern regarding his fate in the MCU when he found out that Thor will not be part of Captain America: Civil War.

He said, "I remember being on the Age of Ultron press tour, and everyone was talking about Civil War. I was like, 'What's Civil War?' I asked, 'Are you doing a side-project or something?' They're like, 'Oh no, Captain America, y'know? The next one is Civil War.' I'm like, 'Wait... Iron Man's in that?' And it's like, 'Yeah, but there's not just Iron Man. There's Vision (Paul Bettany). There's Spider-Man (Tom Holland)...'" Because of that, he wondered, "'Wait — what the hell am I doing?'" Then Marvel told him, "'You're doing your own thing'" For a moment, he thought, "'This is it. I'm being written out.'"

We can't help but blame Hemsworth for thinking that he may be out of the MCU since almost every single hero up to that point was in Captain America: Civil War. But as we all know, we get to see Thor and Hulk on their own little adventure in another world through Thor: Ragnarok. Also, Captain America: Civil War featured the Earth-bound heroes' conflict in relation to the Sokovian Accords so there's no narrative sense for the two characters to be part of it. But of course, later on, they all reunited again in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Thor and Hulk's absence in Captain America: Civil War were eventually addressed in the comedy short film Team Thor where we see Thor taking a vacation in Australia as the events of Civil War are happening and formed a group called "Team Thor" that features him, Bruce Banner, and his roommate Darryl.
