Snoop Dogg has expressed his disappointment over the inclusion of LGBTQ+ themes in children’s movies after watching the 2022 Pixar film Lightyear with his grandson.
The movie features a same-sex relationship between the character Alisha Hawthorne and her wife Kiko Hawthorne, who share a child together.
Unsure how to explain to his grandson how two women could have a child, Dogg voiced his concern about the increasing representation of LGBTQ+ characters in kids’ films.
What Did Snoop Dogg Say About LGBTQ+ theme in Children Movies?

In a talk on the It’s Giving podcast, Dogg revealed he’s now “scared to go to the movies” due to the growing visibility of queer characters, even in films for youths.
“What you see is what you see, and they're putting it everywhere,” he said.
Discussing Lightyear, he admitted he was surprised to see that one of its characters, Avery Hawthorne, has two mothers.
“They're like, 'She had a baby — with another woman,'” he continued. “Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie, is like, 'Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She's a woman!'”
Dogg was visibly caught off guard, unsure how to explain to his grandson how that could happen, thinking he was only there to watch a movie.
However, as the child pressed him for an answer, he recalled how he felt “f----- up” at the time.
“I'm like, scared to go to the movies. Y'all throwing me in the middle of sh-- that I don't have an answer for,” he explained. “It threw me for a loop. I'm like, 'What part of the movie was this?’”
After the incident, the iconic rapper couldn’t help but question why LGBTQ+ themes should be shown to kids so early.
“They're going to ask questions. I don't have the answer,” he added.
How Does the LGBTQ+ Community React to Snoop Dogg’s Comments?
Dogg’s comments have sparked criticism from the LGBTQ+ community, showing the importance of representation and diversity today.
In fact, X user @dom_lucre revealed that the community is furious with the legendary rapper over his remarks about the queer couple in Lightyear.
@anton1omarquise mocked the 53-year-old record producer for being afraid to see a lesbian couple, calling it “completely normal.”
@Demigloom added that Dogg used to be homophobic in the ’90s but became “pro-gay” when former US President Barack Obama legalized gay marriage, suggesting it was to avoid backlash. Now, they claimed, “he just went back to how he always was” since it’s “socially acceptable to hate gay people again.”
Lastly, @angryhalfrican couldn’t help but wonder how Dogg had faced murder trials and prison sentences in the past, yet was “worried about explaining the existence of lesbians.”
Dogg’s latest comments about LGBTQ+ representation in media show just how much this theme continues to spark debate even today.
