In January 2023, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Lionsgate was working on the King of Pop's biopic, which was simply titled Michael. Stepping into Michael's shoes is his own nephew, Jaafar Jackson, the son of Michael's brother, Jermaine Jackson.

The first teaser trailer for the movie arrived in November 2025, giving fans a glimpse of Jafaar as the late singer. In the clip, Jaafar is seen wearing his uncle's iconic costumes, doing the moon walk, and executing his Thriller choreography.

The biopic is set to hit the big screens on April 24, 2026 first before it likely arrives on streaming platforms. For now, it remains to be seen where Michael will be landing.

But considering that most Lionsgate movies are on STARZ and Amazon Prime Video (with new theatrical releases coming to Peacock), the biopic could hit one of these streamers.

Everything We Know About the Michael Biopic

The Michael biopic will not only be about the typical portrayal of the King of Pop's triumphs and tragedies, but cover all aspects of the singer's life beyond the stage.

"This film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances," the official statement of the premise continues, "As never before, audiences will experience an inside look into one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known."
